Statement
Space & Ritual explores the invisible rituals of self-protection women perform while moving through public space.
Public space is often presented as neutral, yet women’s bodies are frequently shaped by caution, awareness and fear. Through translucent fabric, text, photography and moving image, the project makes these hidden routines visible — from avoiding certain routes to staying alert, pretending to be on the phone, or sending messages like “text me when you get home.”
The fabric acts as a membrane between the body and the city: soft, exposed and vulnerable, yet also present and resistant. Placed in passages, underpasses and everyday urban sites, the work transforms transitional spaces into moments of reflection, asking how temporary interventions might reclaim space through visibility and collective experience.
